Mecca In-Store Virtual Assistant Interface

The brief for this project was to design and test a user interface for a shop or cafe.

I wanted to propose an interface that was innovative and actually

improved the experience.

One area I found, from my personal experience, that would

likely to benefit from including an interface, is cosmetic stores. These stores contain

100s of products and I have often found myself and other shoppers feeling lost and

looking for assistance. Though most of these stores DO have mobile apps, they are

not optimised for in-store use.

The concept I decided to move forward with was for the Australian cosmetics store,

Mecca Cosmetica. I planned for the interface to include product matching, product

search tools, and a membership hub.

Initial Prototype

After completing research on the store, wedsite and app features, and compiling a list of goals, limitations and opportunities, I produced a low-fidelity wireframe mock-up using Abobe XD.

Usability Testing

After completing the initial prototype, a physcial model was made and usabilty testing was conducted. A group of 5 participants were selected and asked to complete a set task and think aloud as they completed the task. They then were interviewed about their experience.

Findings

After completing the testing, I compiled the results into a single document outlining speciific issues and notes from users, and potential solutions to apply in additional prototypes.

The key findings related to visibility, error prevention, user control, and flexibility and efficiency of use.

Higher-Fidelity Prototype

A higher-fidelity prototype was then produced, using the findings from user testing.
