Aria

Study Support Robot for ADHD

Aria is a social robotics study aid that enhances focus, organisation, and motivation for students with ADHD through interactive companionship and personalised support.

Introducing Aria

Aria is a social robotics study aid designed to support university students with ADHD, by promoting focus, organisation, and motivation. Through interactive companionship and novel rewards, Aria helps improve motivation and increase accountability during study sessions. The device offers personalised feedback and adaptive guidance to improve study habits while fostering a calming, non-judgmental environment.

Social Robotics

For the Aria project, social robotics plays a crucial role in creating a supportive study environment. By offering interactive companionship, Aria leverages 'body doubling' to boost focus and accountability for students with ADHD. The device uses engaging cues and adaptive feedback, making the study process feel less isolating and more motivating.

Motivation and ADHD

Aria addresses ADHD-related motivation challenges by using visual rewards to sustain engagement. Novel visual cues, like animations and physical motion, provide immediate feedback, making accomplishments tangible. These visual rewards help break down tasks, keep motivation high through small achievements, reduce overwhelm, and support a positive study routine for students with ADHD.

Visualising Time

Visual timers and time blocking make time tangible for students with ADHD. They simplify tasks into manageable segments, reduce anxiety, and maintain focus. Aria’s visual aids, like countdowns and progress bars, enhance time awareness, support consistent breaks, and promote effective time management, creating a structured and motivating study environment.

Aria App

The Aria app enhances study with features like session timing, focus tracking, and customisable preferences. It syncs with the Aria device for seamless progress monitoring, offering metrics and downloadable data. Intuitive controls help set goals and personalise study habits, fostering accountability and creating a motivating, supportive learning environment.

Interaction Logic Map

Aria’s user-device-app interaction forms a continuous feedback loop. The device provides real-time support during study, while the app tracks progress and personalises settings. Users set goals, adjust preferences, and review metrics via the app, which syncs with the device. This creates a tailored, motivating, and adaptive study experience.
